Sohail Muhammad, Product Development Engineer, Intel Shannon
I was studying engineering when an Intel rep came to my campus. He said that, at Intel, you can own your own career.
Right then, it became my dream to work at Intel.
I’m a very career-focused person. This is what first attracted me to the job at Intel. When I was nearly done with my Master’s in Electronic Engineering, I came in for an interview. On my drive home, I got a call to say I had the job! I couldn’t believe it. I’d only left the building 30 minutes before. I was thrilled.
I’ve been at Intel for more than five years now. I’m inspired when I’m able to solve new problems. This gets me out of bed in the morning. At work, I take care of a team of five people who are new to the work I do. Every day, we train. They come to me with questions and we learn together. It’s exciting to know that we’re making a difference in the world. Almost everyone is using technology to take photos, connect to friends, and share data. If you use the internet, our work is impacting your life.
Here, everything is teamwork. My job as a team lead is to make sure that everyone has the right amount of work—that they’re not over or under-loaded. I also want them to enjoy the work while getting the job done. It’s a journey we all contribute to. Together, we solve problems every week.
The Intel community is like a family. Everyone looks out for each other and there is lots of support and excellent facilities. There are opportunities to volunteer or join a social or sports club. When I started here, there was no badminton club, so I decided to start one! At first, we had three players. Today, we have more than 60 and compete in tournaments against neighbouring companies and college teams every year. If you have an idea you can start it and drive it at Intel.
I’m also on the volunteering committee. We attend fundraisers, paint fences, run clothing drives, and tend gardens at nursing homes. It’s exciting to see Intel making an impact in the community. It’s important to me that my employer be involved in giving back. Intel does a matching gift, too, donating €10 for every hour volunteered for your chosen charity.
I highly recommend considering a career at Intel. There are so many flavours of work. Whether you’re interested in software, hardware, or both, there are countless opportunities. We have graduate programmes to onboard skilled young people as they find their perfect career. For those with industry experience, it’s a great company with high-quality work and fantastic benefits. You’ll always be well-positioned to partake in career development and a high quality of work. If you’re future-focussed, interested in career development and want somewhere to grow, Intel is the place for you.
