Intel in Arizona

Since establishing operations in the state in 1979, Intel has invested more than $21 billion in Arizona to develop advanced high-tech manufacturing capacity.

Intel established a presence in Arizona in 1979, and began operations in Chandler the following year. Today, with more than 10,000 employees across two campuses, we manufacture microprocessors that power data centers and hundreds of millions of smart and connected devices worldwide. According to a 2013 study conducted by Arizona State University, Intel’s annual economic impact in Arizona is approximately $5.3 billion.

Economic Impact

Since 1996, Intel has invested more than $21 billion to build high-tech manufacturing capacity in Arizona. Each year, we spend more than $500 million to support research and development in Chandler. In February 2017, we announced plans to invest more than $7 billion to complete Fab 42, which is expected to be the most advanced semiconductor factory in the world. This latest investment is expected to create more than 10,000 long-term jobs in Arizona, including approximately 3,000 high-tech, high-wage positions at Intel.

In 2017, we announced a new goal to restore 100% of our global water use by 2025. While we already return approximately 80% of the water we use back to the community, we are broadening our focus to restore the balance of our water use through collaborative community-based projects, starting right here in Arizona.

Environmental Sustainability

We continually strive to improve our operations and minimize our impact on the environment. In Arizona, our Ocotillo Campus is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified, and a 7.7 megawatt onsite solar carport covers more than 3,000 employee parking spaces. Sustainable water management is also critical to our operations. Since 1996, we have returned more than 5 billion gallons of water to a local underground aquifer to replenish the groundwater supply.

Social Impact

From investing in education and promoting broad economic development initiatives, to working hand-in-hand with neighbors, Intel has long been committed to applying technology and the talents of our employees to broaden access to opportunity and be an asset to our community. Over the last five years, Intel, the Intel Foundation, and Intel employees gave more than $36 million in grants, donations, and in-kind gifts to local Arizona schools, universities, and non-profits. In addition, each year our employees generously donate their time, volunteering approximately 150,000 hours in the community.
